What is an EIN?
An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine (9) digit number (for example, 12-3456789) assigned to you by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). It is a Tax Number, similar to that of a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) which is issued by the IRS to individuals. However, an EIN is only used to report business activities.

Online: Complete application process on the IRS website and receive your EIN immediately via a PDF document.
Fax: Complete Form SS-4 and fax to the IRS with a return fax number. Processing time can vary up to four (4) weeks.
Mail: Complete Form SS-4 and mail directly to the IRS. Processing time can vary up to six (6) weeks.
Telephone: Only for International Applicants.

Who is eligible to apply online?
You may apply for an EIN online if your principal business is located in the United States or U.S. Territories.
The person applying online must have a valid Taxpayer Identification Number (SSN, ITIN, EIN).
You are limited to one EIN per responsible party per day.
The "responsible party," controls, manages, or directs the applicant entity and the disposition of its funds and assets. Unless the applicant is a government entity, the responsible party must be an individual (i.e., a natural person), not an entity. If there is more than one responsible party, the entity may list whichever party the entity wants the IRS to recognize as the responsible party.
